Home Facial 101

Can't afford a special facial by a pro? Be the pro and pumper yourself because after a long day everyone deserves some time to relax.

Some would say, oh! I can't do the job a professional aesthetician does. Yes (you) we can. In fact, a thing your aesthetician won't tell is that you can get the same results at home. So ladies, grab a towel...

  • Keep in mind that a proper daily skincare routine is crucial. Facials can be done once or twice a week or a few times during a month. Make sure you cleanse, tone and moisturise your skin on a daily basis to keep the skin clean, clear and hydrated.
  • When is the best time for a facial ? The ideal time is just after a hot shower or bath. In this case the pores will be wide open. Although, you can do it anytime you feel down or tired and want to pamper yourself.
  • Even in skincare less is more. Actually you don't need all these special treatments, peelings and microdermabrasions (especially if your skin is sensitive).
  • The most disappointing part of getting a facial from an aesthetician is the hype. You expect wonders. You expect to look like a model, radiant, glowing. That won't happen unfortunately. So why spend your precious money when you won't get immediate results ?

  • Make sure your skin is squeaky clean. Remove makeup and apply the cleanser. Take some time to properly massage the clenaser in the skin and pay attention to the temples and where the cheekbone meets the ear. Feels nice, huh? You can use any cleanser you prefer either a lathering gel or a soap. Grab a soft cloth or soft towel, rinse it with warm water and remove the cleanser gently.
  • Apply the exfoliant of your choice. You can use anything. My personal favorite is this winter scrub. Again, take some time to really work the scrub into the skin and lips! Now rinse again with warm water the same cloth and press it on the skin. Let it sit for a few seconds and then wipe the scrub away.

Now it's time for the mask!

  • You can use your favorite mask. It could be a hydrating, a cooling, an anti ageing  or a brightening mask (like the one I am currently loving). You can distribute it with a synthetic flat brush (I'm using number 10 form Kryolan) or with your fingers. Just make sure it's an even layer of product all over the face (excluding the eye and lip area). Let the mask on according to the product's directions.

In the meantime, you can apply a treatment on the eyes. This could be a product, like a store mask specifically for the eye area or something more home made like the these two suggestions :

1. Tea bags ( you can make a tea and then use the bags or just put two bags in warm water and then place them over the eyes)

2. If you drink milk instead of tea, just take a cup, wet two cotton pads and place them on the eyes. (Actually, milk is ideal for depuffing swollen eyes! I bet you didn't know that)

Again, remove everything with a wet soft cloth. Now you can apply face moisturiser, eye cream and lip balm.

Ta da! It wasn't that difficult, wasn't it? And again, if you miss the human touch, then you can beg someone else to do you a facial! A friend or your boyfriend, why not?
I hope you all have an amazing rest of the week, despite the strikes.

How often do you visit your aesthetician?
Would you reconsider about going that often?
